Yup, so far we're all fine.

The "funny" thing is, they still don't know what's causing it.
The poor denounced Spanish cucumbers do carry e-coli but not the strain that ppl are getting so dangerously sick from. So the Spanish cucumbers may be disgusting but no serious health threat.

Glad to hear you haven't been affected.

It's kind of strange, this seems to be a strain they haven't run across before. I don't know much about that stuff. Maybe the bugs will end up being the last "man" standing on the planet, after all.

Take care, Mel.

I'm starting to doubt it's fresh veggies at all....

Two things are dominating the news:
1. Veggie sales have dropped so much that farmers will probably get compensation from the state.
2. During the last couple of days there was a surge of new infections.

So if most veggies remain unpurchased - and ppl supposedly scrub the veggies they are buying till they start to ooze - how come there's even more ppl getting it?
Maybe it's something else? Milk fresh from the farm, minced meat for raw consumption on bread, something I'm not even thinking of...?
Where's Dr House when you really need him?

And yeah, it seems to be a new strain, showing traits of several known strains all rolled into one and being unusually aggressive for e-coli.

I think they narrowed it down to sprouts of some sort now?

As for washing, I know here they have been saying that plants can absorb it through roots too, so washing doesn't always help. That may have been the problem we had with spinach a while back. And I love spinach! *sigh*

I was thinking about you the other day, or more specifically your Syrian stalker. With everything happening there, I couldn't help but wonder about him.

Well, they're still not 100% done with final tests, but it seems the sprouts were indeed the cause. The question that remains is: where did it start? Were the seeds themselves contaminated? (Hence a full fledged sprout warning to the public still being in place, including growing your own.) Did employees contaminate the sprouts? They don't know yet.

My stalker, yeah, I've been thinking of him as well. He was a different person in the emails he sent - to some extent - so I do wonder how he is doing. Strange and freaky as he was, I wouldn't want him to come to any harm.

I was thinking more along the lines that he may have been someone connected to one of the Syrian security services. They seem very serious about stifling any kind of freedom of expression. I started reading "Sarah's Key" by Tatiana de Rosnay recently. Part of it takes place in France in 1942 and revolves around the roundup of Jews at the Velodrome d"Hiver. A horrible event. It's sad to think that people have not learned from it.

I'm not sure if most wasn't mere bustle. Trying to show any authority listening in that he was being a good citizen or something.

Well, if even ppl within Germany didn't learn from it, why should ppl in other countries...? *sadly shakes head*

You know, Mel, what happened may have started in Germany, but there were people in other countries that seemed to willingly follow along or turn the other way and not see. And yes, very sad.
