there is a whole lot of animal road signs in Norway ( here ) are they the same as the one you want ?

@ PH: I kinda had been hoping the shape of the animal spoke for itself. Google sucks majorly for translation then btw, “Eichhörnchen” is no freaky regional dialect but the proper German word for squirrel. Shame on Google for not knowing it.
And “to tick” is “ankreuzen” anyway, not “kreuzen”.

@ Lynnette: Thank goodness, no. But I had a crossing - or rather strolling - squirrel yesterday. And then the damned critter strolled right up to the car and diappeared from view, so animal-friendly me had to get out of the car to make sure it wasn’t sitting underneath before I dared driving on.

But there is also the possibility of it climbing up into somewhere that you can’t see. Like a wheel well. Not good.

I used to hate it when dogs would run by my bike. I was always afraid I would accidentally swerve and run one over. Not as bad as a car, but still unpleasant.

@ Lynnette: Well, there was a garden with loads of trees on the side of the road the squirrel was ambling over to.
And as the road under the car was squirrel-free and nothing went *thump-squish* when I drove on, it must’ve entered the garden.

Sadly, I once terminated a squirrel. It ran right under the wheel of my motorcycle. I nearly wrecked my bike trying not to hit it. The poor thing did not die instantly either. After that, I slowed down in squirrel habitats and was able to avoid hitting a few more later on.

Your Deutschlander Eichhörnchen have much longer ears than their Americalander cousins! Yours are cuter.

Ok, “schnell” (adj.) does indeed mean fast.
“Herr” is mister; “Fräulein” miss. Achtung! Caution advised. “Fräulein” is a word whose use is dying out; only older ppl use it regularly, and many of us younger ladies might wish to slap anyone using it on her cos a lot of the younger generation consider it derogatory.
No clue what you might mean with “Stalag”.
A “Wiener Schnitzel” has nothing to do with Wieners, although it seems there’s a silly American restaurant that is doing its best to make Americans think so. Enlightenment awaits!

Interesting, Wiener Schnitzel sounds like fish sticks only made from veal instead of fish. I wonder, can you make Wiener Schnitzel out of chicken?

“Stalag 13″ was the name of the prisoner of war camp in Hogan’s Heros.

The town in Alabama where I grew up had a German prisoner of war camp. The town is called Tuscaloosa. The camp buildings were still standing until the early 1980’s when they were torn down to build a mall. Actually, some of the buildings were blown up to create stunts for the Burt Reynolds film “Hooper”. As far as I know, the Germans held in the Tuscaloosa camp were part of Rommel’s army captured in North Africa. The prisoners were well treated, and some have even returned over the years to visit Alabama. (Interestingly, Tuscaloosa has a huge Mercedes plant now that builds the large M-Class SUVs for world wide distribution.)

When I was in Junior High, a book was published by a woman from Alabama titled “The Summer of My German Soldier”. Apparently, she had some job at one of the camps in Alabama as a teenager and she got to know a few of the prisoners. She became good friends with one of them. She came to talk to my English class one day. I don’t remember much, except that her story was interesting. We were supposed to read her book before she came to visit, but I was too busy reading other books. Some day, I should read that book!
