Please, hold the line…
Friends, I’m suffering pc trouble at the moment. Don’t know when I will be back. Can’t stay online for more than a few minutes at a time. Wish me luck in locating the damaged software that a friend thinks must be the reason.
But….. I will be back!!!!!! *defiant stance*

Computer problems really suck! Good Luck!
August 6th, 2007 at 9:49 pm
Ahhh, I was beginning to think you were down for the count. Good luck, Mel.
August 10th, 2007 at 7:51 pm
How are the repairs coming Mel? I hope you are getting to the root of the problem. Maybe one of those bumble bees got into your computer case and pollinated the wrong circuits.
August 13th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
Yeah, maybe it pollinated (Is that a word…….?) my modem card……
August 14th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
Welcome back :)!
August 15th, 2007 at 8:32 am
I couldn’t find much. I forgot that the Deep Freeze was installed on this PC the recent while. I’m so sorry! Deep Freez sucks!
August 15th, 2007 at 9:04 am
Time for a new post now!
August 15th, 2007 at 7:56 pm
for future reference:
install ANY programs which archives you need, on a separate drive other than the one crummy windows is on,
also, if you ever run into such a situation and you cant connect the harddrive in a Slave configuration by hand,
get a FREE LEGITIMATE DOWNLOAD COPY of
“Knoppix”
a Linux Operating system you can boot completely from CD, which then you use as a rescue disc to comfortably copy/move any files you want, on any drive you want, its not difficult, looks like windows, only a million times better. it recognizes almost all hardware configurations and loads them from cd, no need for driver install or anything and it DOES NOT interfere with anything on the pc itself.
700megs (or if you can, get the 4.5GB free DVD), you can find it 100% free, just google Knoppix for the latest version. (its based in germany, so maybe you can get one by mail)
(i know i sound like an advertisement, but trust me, its THAT good, and i dont satisfy easy)
August 18th, 2007 at 8:34 am
See! That’s what you get for playing with daggers! [LOL!]
PC knows….(spank*)
August 19th, 2007 at 8:45 pm
Hmmm…your archives look okay to me.
August 20th, 2007 at 7:43 pm
thats cuz she doesnt store the files on her own pc, but rather rents server space someplace else, yes?
August 20th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
Caesar: Thank you.
Hm, that was indeed not much.
David: Muh.
13: Can Knoppix do magic?
*inserts sword into Will’s ear and packs modem card to send to him, so that they can discuss their issues with me face to face*
Lynnette: Not those archives. All my yahoo chats.
13: Yeap. Plus, everything else wordpress and blog related I had the brains to know where to find and to save onto my external HD.
August 20th, 2007 at 11:01 pm
Oooooh, they’re all gone?
I would hate that. I even hate it when comments sections I frequent get wiped out. Not that I go back and re-read everything, but it’s interesting sometimes to look back and see the discussionst. I was really ticked off when Nabil wiped us off the planet on his blog.
Yep, that’s why they say backup everything.
August 20th, 2007 at 11:03 pm
er…ignore that extra ‘t’.
August 21st, 2007 at 12:27 am
Can I put the line down now? Its getting heavy!
August 21st, 2007 at 8:09 am
Lynette: Yes….
Ignored.
David: Ffffff. Cissy.
August 21st, 2007 at 3:45 pm
*pats Mel* I’m sorry.
Btw, I bought “Reaper Man” the other day. Haven’t started it yet, though.
August 28th, 2007 at 4:55 am
How about that new post Mel?

August 28th, 2007 at 5:25 am
So, how about that new post Mel?

August 28th, 2007 at 7:30 pm
Hmmm, my comment from yesterday still has not appeared!
August 28th, 2007 at 7:33 pm
Ah, comments are working again!
Well, yesterday I wrote to encourage a new post. I made all kinds of faces.
August 28th, 2007 at 7:35 pm
@ Lynnette: Thank you.
Regarding the book… good choice. That was the first one I ever saw of him in a bookstore and bought. And it got me hooked instantly. Obviously.
@ David: Poor man. Didn’t get any comment though, no notification, nothing….
Because….. Akismet ate your attempts.
@ all: David’s comments from today (his yesterday
) 4:55 and 5:25 am are “new”; I just despammed them.
August 29th, 2007 at 8:33 am
My comments were spammed? :O Bad, bad Akismet!! Actually, I did get an indication that something weird was going on. After my first comment failed to appear, I tried to post it again and I got a message that it was a duplicate comment and that it had been deleted. So, then I changed the comment slightly and tried to post again. That one did not appear either. I tried to repost the second comment and I got the same message about duplicate comments. So, I gave up and tried again the next day.
Well, isn’t this an interesting conversation?
August 29th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
Mel,
No, that was your choice! I’m following your recommendations in order.
Yes, David is right…we really need a new post.
We haven’t heard hardly anything about your trip to Syria to visit Ceasar.
David,
That kind of thing happens to me all the time over at Zeyad’s. So annoying!
August 31st, 2007 at 7:48 pm
just do like me: this is the website i cite when i post here:
http://akismet_For_The_Win.com
i was spammed myself not many moons ago, so dont take it personally!
and Yes Mel, in the right hands, Knoppix can and does work Miracles!
sorry it JUST crossed my mind, but there ARE some softwares which claim retrieval of formatted data as long as it is not overwritten, but i dont use them myself
September 8th, 2007 at 9:47 am
sooooooooo Melly: whats up? hows everything now? did the help, erm.. help?
take care now, oh an Lynnette says u quit blogging
September 8th, 2007 at 3:00 pm
@ 13: Which help; only got a link to Ad-Aware in my offlines..?
@ Lynnette: Nonono, I’m just having further probs. I dunno how that could have happened, but in 2 minutes being online (AOL auto-logging on and updating after re-install) without having my antivirus prog installed yet, I managed to get my pc infected with something dreadful. And I did not even visit any websites!!!!
The description for removal reads so extensive and complicated that another format c: and re-install looks like the way easier solution.
Before I do that though I’d like to try and recover the formatted yahoo archives.
Concerning that I was first waiting for someone to help me with some prog, which yesterday turned out to not be working anyway.
I should have asked 13 right away, I guess….
The malware has gotten worse during that waiting time. As I already just told my sis, I spent a merry half hour hitting “stop process” in task manager (after having minimized the priority of the evil .exe and raised the priority of other progs I had started to max) until the beast finally caved in and died…. for this session…

Ad-Aware is good, I use it every day. I also have Norton Internet Security. It a bit expensive, but I have had no virus problems. I thought that AOL provided anti-virus protection?
September 8th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
She lives! I was starting to wonder, Mel.
Let’s see…I’ve used Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Spy Sweeper with Anti-virus, and Norton Internet Security too, on different computers. I think Spy Sweeper is pretty good.
If the virus or spyware has gotten into the root you may want to try a program to clean that up. A computer guru I know through work mentioned F-Secure’s Blacklight program as being good. I think you can still get a free trial version off of their website.
I’ve been pretty lucky so far except for one key logger program that infected my computer at home. Spy Sweeper found that one though. Hopefully I have dealt with it.
Good luck! And hope to see you again soon!
13,
A little squeeking does help to grease the wheel!

adware malware spamware AAAAAAAH!
the most annoying things i’ve been hit with so far:
1. the RPC bug (wayyy back in the day)
2. Brontok (not sure which incarnation, but it was NASTY)
3. this copy.exe crap. not dangerous, but annoying. removal is pretty easy tho. just run a virus scan then edit ur registry!
i’ve also seen the I.Love.You Virus at work on a university pc, or was that kournikova? damn nasty thingy, even if removed, you have to do a lot of registry tweaking to get it up and running like before, or you could just format and get done with it!
out of personal experience: Kaspersky AntiVirus is freaking good, and worth paying for. imagine ME saying that.
Ad-aware.. hm. its ok, i use it, just dont use it too much.
i’ve also been trying Advanced System Optimizer. a swiss-knife of sorts for Windows, loving it so so much!
ohhhkay, nuff geektalk. gotta go sleep.

@ David: *mumble, mumble* AOL *mumble, mumble*
@ Lynnette: Well, my pc is half cured now. What 13 told me to use removes the crap for the moment, but once I restart the comp…. welcome back, friends!
Hope I’ll find the time soon for another fromat c: and re-install.
@ 13: You geek.
