Well, it certainly took me a long time to scroll down to the comment box! So, what shall we chat about here at this post? Hmmm, well I just saw the movie The DaVinci Code for the first time. I know, I am really out of date, but I almost never go to the movie theater anymore. Actually I checked the movie out for free at the Public Library. Anyway, that was really an excellent movie! I didn’t exactly get the idea that Sophie is the only living descendent of Jesus though. After 2000 years, there would certainly be many thousands of descendents!
March 28th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
My finger is tiiiiiireeed from all that scrolling!
After 2000 years, there would certainly be many thousands of descendents!
The movie version of “The Davinci Code” was good. It followed the book very well. Have you ever read “Angels and Demons”? I actually liked that one better than Davinci.
Mel,
I’m at the point in “Pyramids” where Teppic and the cute girl are fleeing on the cud chewing camel. You didn’t tell me this was a romance…
March 28th, 2007 at 7:10 pm
Lynnette, I have not read either book. No doubt they are excellent though! I understand that a movie based on Angels and Demons is in production now. I wonder if Tom Hanks will star again?
March 28th, 2007 at 10:58 pm
I hope so. I like continuity in my characters.
Well, if you’ve seen the movie, there’s really no need to read the book. You already know the ending!

nah, just some shut-eye maybe…argh!
shameless plug alert:
continuing back from my own blog:
Lynnette: thing is, if i ever leave here, it would benefit me yes in a way, but it would 110% screw me over in ten other ways.
in short: my plans (for world-domination, or similar purposes of course) would be ruined..
ah.
anyway, dont fret about it, i myself dont!
Que Sera, Sera.

Angels and Demons was ok, but i somehow didn’t believe Langdon would be alive after THAT ending tried to keep us “hanging”
whatever you do, don’t read Digital Fortress: i mean, if you want your tech-thrillers to have at least a LITTLE credibility ala “Clancy”
that book had a nasty habit of giving you “facts” and you HAD to make a choice:
1) either the facts r right, and the NSA don’t know their asses from a hole in the ground, oh and TaeKwonDo is DEADLY LETHAL COMBAT.
or
2) mr. Brown did not research subject matter at all, just watched a few hollywood movies while drunk and decided to make a mishmash/book out of them.
the fourth book about NASA and the south (north?) pole was a tad better.
(Title: Deception Point ?)
so where is the owner of the blog??
also, come on, delete my spamments, i mean, hell, even i had a cramped index finger from all the “page down’s”
sorry again.
March 31st, 2007 at 4:58 pm
David: Congrats for watching the Code!
thing is: i liked the book better, the inner monologues of Langdon was obviously impossible to replicate on screen, so they had to give you the clues IN YOUR FACE.. ah..
still, a very good book adaptation.. very very good

Anarki,
Oh let me clarify my hug above…
I put that up when I saw you had did the two comments sections on your blog for Mel. That’s why I though it was cool and you deserved a hug.
As to the other depressing news…there I would say you need a
And I left another comment on your blog regarding that.
Too late, I’ve already read Digital Fortress. And I agree with you. Not his best book. I haven’t read Deception Point yet, but I’ve got it in my pile. Yes, I admit it, I’m a book-oholic.
March 31st, 2007 at 8:36 pm
Mel,
I forgot you wanted to know how I liked the one scene in “Pyramids”…
That was where I first realized he had a quirky sense of humor. I loved this line:
He placed it on his head at a jaunty angle, took a last satisfied look at himself in the mirror, turned on his heel and, very slowly, fell over.
I will be looking for another Pratchett.
April 1st, 2007 at 7:35 pm
Anarki, I am not usually congratulated for my ability to watch movies, but thanks anyway.
Sure, books always have more detail. I remember how bitterly disappointed I was after I saw the first attempt to make a Dune movie! The scenes that were there were good, but it seemed that 95% of the plot was left out of the movie! If I hadn’t read the book, I would have been totally lost and confused! I heard that the director filmed about 12 hours worth of scenes and butchered it down to two. I thought for a long time that the 12 hours should be edited into a mini-series. Well, finally the SciFi channel put together some really excellent mini-series length movies covering the first Dune trilogy! I was quite pleased with those. I hope they will do God Emperor sometime soon! Along a similar vein, I have just discovered that Brian Herbert and his writer pal/collaborator have edited a new book with a great deal of material written by Frank Herbert, but cut out of the original Dune by him. It will be fascinating to read a book of deleted scenes authored by the master himself! Some year I’ll get to it!
April 2nd, 2007 at 3:42 am
Lynnette: Thank you
no worries bout me (or the great collective un-resident unwashed), we’re iraqis! what worse can happen to us?
oh oh get Pratchett’s “The Last Hero”, its short, and if you get the illustrated version i promise its worth every cent!
this is for lighter reading, Mel did suggest very good alternatives!
—-
David: Dune :(( yes, we both share the disappointment/pain of THAT movie.
its exactly like having the original Star warS trilogy edited down to 15 mins:
“princess caught, princess escapes, cue 5 mins for “trench run”, hero has his hand cut, other hero is “on ice”, bad guy is hero’s father, some guy falls into the sarlaac pit, fat monster dies, green planet with furry “monkeys”, they win, then lose, then win again, emperor dies, bad “father” dies, then becomes a ghost, hero is girl’s brother, other hero is her lover.
THAT’s (figuratively) how Dune the Movie felt to me.
AAaaand, the child who played Alia is CREEPY! (i don’t like children much so maybe that added to my phobia)
i pray any new adaptation will be ala the TV series..
(you know i learned the original was remade, thru YOU, i mean, i had the Children of Dune DVD, but i never knew there was a DUNE remake.. very cool. Very)
NOW WHERE IS THE OWNER OF THE BLOG?
April 2nd, 2007 at 6:01 am
Anarki, glad I helped you out with the new Dune movie.
That actor they picked to play the Baron was an excellent choice. It is even more sinister, I think, for evil to hide behind a handsome (albiet rather fat) face than an ugly one, as was the case with the original movie.
Your one paragraph Star Wars Trilogy is pretty humorous!
Yes, where is the Mel? Perhaps she is lost amid the vast expanse of my new post!
April 2nd, 2007 at 6:04 am
Oh, I just noticed, thanks Mel for shortening Anarki’s cinematic length spamments. Its such a relief to my index finger!
April 2nd, 2007 at 7:26 pm
Strange, it deleted me. I had to type myself in again.
Anarki,
…what worse can happen to us?
Good Gawd, don’t ask!
Okaaaaay, I’ll add “The Last Hero” to the list.
April 2nd, 2007 at 8:31 pm
@ David & Lynnette: Well; guess the scrolling problem has been solved now….
I won’t comment on neither books nor movies as I never read/saw ‘em.
@ Lynnette: Ahhhh, this book is a lot of things. (”I feel naked without my bangles”)
Does he? Hhhhhhhhhhm……
@ aNarki: Er, sorry, did Blogger notify you that you’re running out of server space, or why are you answering people’s questions over here now?
What, what? I’m here; I was just busy…
@ Lynnette: Ok, once my ruffled feathers have settled he might get that hug.
Regarding the other matter we should extensively hug him indeed…
Yes, that is exactly the scene I mean. (The dressing/arming before is merely leading up to the sentence you quoted.) Slapstick in a way, but I laugh every time I read it - and I read my books a lot, as I read more than any sane person can supply books for.
@ aNarki: Hm, dunno, maybe it’s the anime/comic person in you that says that. I didn’t really like The Last Hero that much.
3:42 am, and you ask where I am? In bed of course.
@ David: At 6:01 am I was probably lost in dreams…
You’re welcome. Will shorten the ones on the other post in a minute.
@ Lynnette: Lol! It seems you’re the only one whose comments get eaten by my blog? It must dislike you. Sorry, I’ll try and have some stern words with it.
Oh my, I hope I made sense. My brain is filled with fluff due to me having a cold. *sneezes*
April 3rd, 2007 at 6:32 am
Mel, you need to drink more banana juice!
April 3rd, 2007 at 5:28 pm
… I read more than any sane person can supply books for.
There were so many good scenes in that book that made me laugh. I loved the math calculating camel! Hmmm…Ready, Aim Fire!
I don’t know what it is about me…but, you’re right, it doesn’t seem to like me.
Well gotta get to work…take care of the cold.
April 3rd, 2007 at 5:29 pm
I don’t know what it is about me…but, you’re right, it doesn’t seem to like me.
er…your blog, not the camel.
April 3rd, 2007 at 11:51 pm
@ David: No-one bought me any!!!!!!
@ Lynnette. Well, hopefully I’ll get a few new books soonish.
I loved the math calculating camel! *cud, cud, cud*
Oh, taking his outlook on people I am fairly sure You Bastard doesn’t like you either…
April 4th, 2007 at 7:19 am
Mel, I’m a bit confused. Who was supposed to buy you something? Hope you are feeling better!
April 4th, 2007 at 9:23 am
@ David: Banana juice. Someone was supposed to buy her banana juice, as you suggested she should drink more of it. But nobody bought her any. I’m sure she’ll soon realize that buying it herself might be a possibility…
@ Mel: Oh, it’s books you wanted for your birthday? You should have said so, dear. Now I’ve knitted all those nice woolly socks for you.
April 4th, 2007 at 11:09 am
@ David: See? My sis understood me.
Well, sort of….. at least regarding the banana juice….
Although I might point out that I didn’t really have the time to buy my own juice. But anyway….
@ woolly socks:
April 4th, 2007 at 12:05 pm
Should I throw in a lumpy sweater, as well?
April 4th, 2007 at 6:28 pm
Once upon a time, socks were considered luxury items and banana juice would have been the drink of a king.
April 4th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
Yeah, yeah, yeah, camels are such snobs. If you don’t have four legs and a tail, you’re toast.
April 4th, 2007 at 8:13 pm
@ Mafdet: Good thing you never finish sweaters anyway….
@ David: Well…. yes. But that was then, and now is now.
@ Lynnette: Hehe.
On a totally unrelated topic: Poor, poor aNarki…..
April 5th, 2007 at 12:37 am
done.. hffft.. its 100% operational and working!
expect a part2 post soon, i dont know if its as stupid as the first one..
i’m tired but i have to stay up all night cuz tomorrow morning early my aunt and uncle (real aunt and uncle) will pick me up to go with them to the embassy or sth.. (something which has to do with the new G passport i think, no other reason to see those buggers)..
oh Woe is Me. Woe is Me.. ahhhh
still, now that i reflect on it, it was funny!
i REALLY should read pyramids.. i seem to be missing a LOT.. ah.
April 5th, 2007 at 12:43 am
those buggers = the embassy ppl, of course
April 5th, 2007 at 8:57 am
Mel, sometimes I look cheap but decorative glasswear and I wonder how many pounds of gold an Eqyptian Pharoah would trade me for a set.
I found Guards! Guards! at the used book store this evening. I think I will read it soon, as Carrot is my favorite character, and I want to know more about his back story!
April 5th, 2007 at 9:01 am
I look at, I look at! Actually, I always look cheap in my old jeans and beat up shoes, but I luxuriate in my 100% cotton socks made in Viet Nam!
April 5th, 2007 at 9:20 am
@ aNarki: Oh dear? to part 2, and Good luck! to the embassy visit.
Of course you should read Pyramids….
Sure about the buggers….?
@ David: you should definitely read that, yeah.
Hehehe, do you, now? That was a really fascinating fact about your socks there….
April 5th, 2007 at 4:59 pm
On a totally unrelated topic: Poor, poor aNarki…..
Shame on you, Mel… to laugh at a guy when he’s down. I would never, ever, do that…
(Well, okay maybe just a teeny weeny little bit…
)
Anarki,
Stupid? No, no, no, that was an excellent post! I enjoyed it a lot!
Yes, you should read “Pyramids”. It was a nice break from all of the serious stuff.
Hope everything goes well at the embassy.
David,
That’s one nice thing about finding a new author like Pratechett. I know I will be able to find older titles at a used bookstore. I only buy at Borders when I have coupons and am looking for a book that isn’t readily available.
April 5th, 2007 at 5:02 pm
Pratechett
Pratchett
Too early in the morning…
April 5th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
Lynnette, I haven’t checked the public library yet for Pratchett. Free is always better than cheap used.
April 5th, 2007 at 8:29 pm
Anarki, good luck at the embassy!
April 5th, 2007 at 9:12 pm
Lynnette, I wasn’t laughing at him, I was….. reverse-laughing-with-him. Like…. getting him to laugh at the whole thing by pre-laughing with him…. Or something.
Pratechett?
@ David:
But. But. But…. then you don’t own the book!!!!!

Since it is close to freezing here, you should be enjoying a nice warm day there.

Wow, nice flowers, thank you, Lynnette. *sniffs*
David, I think it was but I wouldn’t know, as I spent most of the day sweating in the kitchen, lol. I dunno if that kinda food really takes so long to prepare or if that just was me being a bad housewife kicking in again…
